Blacksburg, Va., Nov. 18 - The Rising Silo Brewery is “the best kept secret in Blacksburg” as Alessandra Kelly had put it. Located on Glade Road and in cahoots with Glade Road Growing farm the brewery is a one of a kind for Blacksburg.

 

The Rising Silo Brewery was founded by Greg and Jess Zielske, Pat Bixler, with the ongoing help of the community members. It’s a beautiful two in one masterpiece where the farm family and the brewery created a place of enjoyment for craft beer lovers.

 

The brewery is constantly trying to get the locals involved and provide them with a relaxing and fun atmosphere that allows for the community to get together and connect with one another though drinks and beer.

 

With stone oven baked pizzas on Fridays with fresh vegetables provided by Glade Road Growing, the community gets to enjoy not only local beer but also local food. The brewery even changes the menu up as it gets colder by providing vegetable soup for the community.

 

“A lot of this stuff has emerged from just things that we all wanted to do here for fun that we liked. The pizza oven was one of them,” said Zielkse. “Erin who does the baking kind of headed up building the oven and built it for his purposes of biking so that there would be some bread here.“

 

Their biggest critics are their local farmers, with these individuals constantly coming around and getting together.  “The whole place is kind of a compilation of different people and the oven is part of that,” said Zielkse.

 

Besides the fact that the brewery is as local as it gets, they also are an energy efficient brewery. The Barn has a 6K selection of solar panels, and a water structure that produces an effective amount of warm water for usage daily.
